5. Biblical Leadership& Democratic leadership
Philip Woods nih democratic leadership kan timi cu mipi nih midang i ukter ti siloin an mahte in an i ukmi hruainak a si a ti. A tawifiannak in cun, mipi nih zalongte in chimrelnak nawlngeih, zapi `hatnak caah khuakhaan`i, nuhrin covo (human rights) le adang covo tete (rights) ithluk cio in conak nawl ngeih, le biachahnak i  itel khawhnak nawl ngeih hi democratic leadership style cu a si. Cucaahcun, nihin nitiang mainline church deuh nih cun Democratic hruainak he aa lomi biblical leadership hi an hmandeuh. An i lo thluk a tinak cu si lo. Khrifa hruainak cu, Pathian `ihzah bu in Baibal hi final authority ah chiah a si. Democracy ahcun constitution le law (no one is above the law).
Aung San Su Kyi nih political camp a tuah lio ah a rak chimmi cu, Democracy kan timi cu rammi pakhat cio nih taawon thiseik (a sense of duty and responsibility) kan ngeihmi hi a si ko tiah a ti. “With great power comes great responsibility” By: Voltaire, French historian and philosopher. (Great leadership requisites great responsibility): Eg. Sewol accident.
Bia kan fon ahcun, hruaitu a simi nihcun “responsibility” tam ngai a ngei. Cu bantuk `hiam in zultu zong nih hruaitu he kut isih in, kan itimhmi kan phanh khawh nakhnga caah “`uanvo, responsibility” tam tuk kan ngei ve. CCF ah hruaitu pawl lawng nih rian an `uan ahcun rianhma a kal lai lo, pakhat cio nih “a sense of responsibility” ngeih kan hau.
6. Servant Leadership
Christian leadership le democratic leadership aa lo kan tin a in a huapthlu lo. Christian leadership i a muru taktak cu “Servant leadership” tu hi a si deuh. Cucu Jesuh nunnak ah siseh a cawnpiaknak ah siseh kan hmuh khawh mi a si. (not to be served but to serve Mk 10: 45; Matt. 20:25. Washing disciples’ feet John 13:1-17). There are at least four characteristics of servant leadership.
  • Toidornak (Humility): Servant leader nihcun a hramhram in si loin toidornak he mipi a hruaihna. (Matthew 20:25 -26 shows the difference between Gentile or worldly leadership and servant leadership). Jesus way of leadership is revolutionary to Roman culture and social system. The manner of Jesus’s leadership is to be humble and “not lording it over” ).
  •  T~uan (Service): Matthai 20:26-28, ah Jesuh nih “Vawleicung ahcun nan hngalh bantuk in, bawi nih an ukmi hna cu a lal  in an lalhnawh tawn hna i hruaitu hna nih khan an hruaimi hna cu a uk in an uktawn hna. 26Sihmanhsehlaw nannih cu cu ti cun nan siawk a si lai lo. Nan lak i pakhatkhat nih ngan a duh ahcun nan sin um a si awk a si. *27Ahohmanh pakhatnak si a duhmi cu nan sal a siawk a si. *28Cuticun pei Mi Fapa hi a si cu, rianṭuanpiak ding ah ka rat ṭung lo, mi tampi an rianṭuanpiak awk le annih tlanhnak ca i ka nunnak pek awk ah pei ka rat cu,” tiah a ti. Hika zawn ah “dictactorship uknak phun” a simi, Greek holh in‘diakonos’“lording it over” le “servant leadership” a simi “doulos” “servant or service”  aa ral kahning kan hmuh khawh. Servant leader nih cun Pathian rian tiah upat bu in, lungthote in a `uan hngading kha a tuan. (The essence of servant leadership is to serve not to be served; and to give not receiving).Micaah`uan le available si ding. (“Availability is more important than quality” By: Dr. M. Parsley).
  • Micaah (Focus on others):  Aho khi dah kan `uanpiak lai. Pathian caah kan `uan cu a si ko nain, Matt. 22: 20-28 context ningahcun mi dang cungah/caah `uan ding in aa kan cawnpiak. (the recipients of our service are other people). The biggest temptation in servant leadership is “what is in it for me?” as Peter thought in the same way. We need to take a positive aspect in serving others not as the pagans. The different between negative aspect of leadership (as usually applied in pagan leadership) and positive aspect of Christian leadership is described by Peter as follows. I Pet. 5:2-3
    Negative
    Positive
    Not because you must
    But because you are willing
    Not greedy for money
    But eager to serve
Not lording it over those entrusted to you
But being example to the flock
  • d.  Love
The fourth element that is integral to servant leadership is love. The reason why the leader serves others is not because he must or his duty but out of his love. Loen Morris comments on John 13, “the whole verse with its emphasis on love may be meant to set the tone for the lengthy section it heads.” “Towel” is the very symbol of “the full extent of Jesus’ love;” it is a towel, not a throne!
Now, the four characteristics of servant leadership can be shortly described as follows.

    Characteristics
    Biblical directive
    Contrasts
    Manner of leadership
    Humble
    How?
    Not lording it over
    Humility, not ego
    Essence of leadership
    Service
    What?
    A servant and slave
    Giving, not receiving
    Recipients of leadership
    Others
    Who?
    For many
    Others, not self
    Motive of leadership
    Love
    Why?
The full extent of his love
    A towel, not a throne

Wrong concepts on servant leadership
(a) Doing ministry for others (Eph. 4:11-13)
(b) Being Passive (In Matt. 25:13-40)
(c) Focusing on Weaknesses ( II Cor. 11-13)
(d) Ignoring own needs
